It causes
so much dysfunction
It can
cause the mind to malfunction
It can
bring out the worst in anyone!
It can
shield the sun
Make one
feel shunned
From
society
It can
give hopeless anxiety
Make life
cold, hungry, lonely, and dark
Make it
feel like
Home is
not far from Central park.
So much
potential we are losing due to poverty
So much
compassion and humanity
So much
missed opportunity

Poverty
Can cause
depression
And
social regression
Make one
vulnerable and easy to stray
Easy to
lead astray
Poverty
Can cause
low self-esteem
It can
prevent someone from living a dream
Lack of
opportunity
Making
the roads unravel in-between
Poverty
can cause death due to lack of heat
Make the
young hustle the streets
Those in
poverty, too often miss out on education and higher learning
Life for
them
May only
be a yearning
And , if
there is a lack of social skills
It can
keep them
From
having a strong will
Keep them
on the path downhill
It can
keep them from having a job
Make them
feel that before they were born
They were
robbed
Mentally
tired and broken down
Perpetually
keeping them with a frown
Out of
despair
It can
cause more crime
One of
the many reasons
I’m
trying to write this rhyme
And until
we take a deeper look
By hook
or by crook
To see it
for the tragedy it is
Without
preconceived notions
With deep
and wise compassion
In our
minds and emotions
Beaming
through our eyes
And see
how it can destroy lives
Maybe
just then
We can
help them to survive
Help them
to become alive
So much
potential we are losing due to poverty
So much
compassion and humanity
So much
missed opportunity
